Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor will come from the developer Monolith Productions, creator of the F.E.A.R. series -and more recently the console only, Lord of the Rings themed MOBA game Guardians of Middle-earth.

The press release states that Shadow of Mordor will present “an original, dark story of retribution in (a) third-person action game”. It states that gamers will play as a ranger who goes by the name of Talion, who is made to watch the murder of his family by the forces of Sauron, and then kills himself.

The story then takes an undead twist when Talion is resurrected by a ‘Spirit of vengeance’, and is given “Wraith abilities”. Talion’s journey is one of vengeance, though in the course of his story he will uncover “the truth of the Spirit that compels him… and ultimately confront his true nemesis”.

Shadow of Mordor is in development for the Xbox 360, Ps3, and for the Xbox One and PS4 as well. It is slated to be the very first next-generation Lord of the Rings game.

Little has been shed on how the game will be played other than it will be a third-person action game, and that the game world will adapt and change based on player decision making, and that the world’s inhabitants have the ability to “remember and adapt to the player”, they’re calling this the ‘Nemesis System’.

According to the press release, the team at Monolith Productions “collaborated with Middle-Earth Enterprises, Peter Jackson and… Weta Workshop to ensure that the settings, characters and story align authentically within canon”.

Hey, I'm Gabriel. Games are really cool, I like them a lot. My favourites are Assassin's Creed II, Bastion, Pokémon and so many more, wow. Words are also cool, so sometimes I like to write words about games.
