A new international trailer has been released for James Gandolfini’s last film, The Drop. Michaël R. Roskam, director of the Oscar-nominated film Bullhead (Best Foreign Language Film, 2012), makes his American debut in charge of a stellar cast including Tom Hardy and Noomi Rapace.
The script was adapted from the work of author Dennis Lehane, whose work has been previously used to create some of this century’s finest thrillers including Mystic River, Gone Baby Gone and Shutter Island. This time around Dennis Lehane adapted his own work, penning the script himself.
It’s already looking like Hardy and Rapace have put in fine performances, as usual, but it’s Gandolfini’s work that is of particular interest. Breaking away from his traditional roles of men in power, Gandolfini plays a broken down character who finds his chance for redemption.
There’s no word yet on an Australian release date, but The Drop is set for US cinemas on September 12.
