The Yeah Yeah Yeah’s frontwoman, Karen O, has teamed up with Sam Spiegel of NASA to help advertise the new range of SONOS wireless speakers. Their cover of I Shot the Sheriff possesses an upbeat dance rhythm, as well as bright synthesisers and squeaky harmonies that work well to compliment the theme of the song. The overall feel of the track is juxtaposed to the reggae styling and dulcet tones of the original song by Bob Marley and the Wailers, released way back in 1973. The ad aired during the Grammy Awards and has so far received fairly mixed feedback, with people both enjoying and disliking the modern twist of the classic tune. This is not the first time that Karen O has covered well known music. In 2011 she worked with Trent Reznor from Nine Inch Nails to cover the legendary track by Led Zepplin, Immigrant Song, for the soundtrack for The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.
