I was literally just yesterday watching Ocean’s 11 and thinking ‘DAYMN. Julia Roberts is goddamn amazing’. Then I wake up today – 15 years after the film was released – and she just pulls this one out. At 47 the Pretty Woman has been announced as the face of Givenchy’s Spring/Summer 2015 campaign.
As a brand that prides itself on androgyny, power and strength, the French fashion house has made a drop dead amazing decision in Julia as its face – considering her bone structure is as strong as they come. The stunning black and white campaign was shot by regular Givenchy collaborators Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott.
Creative director, Riccardo Tisci has dressed Julia for many a red carpet event, so it makes sense he chose her as his newest muse. He says of the gorgeous star:
For me, the Julia in these pictures is the real one you see every day. They’re really honest portraits of her… As you can see from the pictures, Julia is looking far from her days as a glamazon.
They almost bring me back to her My Best Friend’s Wedding days, when she was still obviously feminine but with a pretty strong tone in her dress and manner.
As Tisci has mentioned, this campaign is a pretty iconic moment for Givenchy and fashion in general. Having an actress as a face can go either way, and this one deeeefinitely works. As you can tell, the Givenchy S/S15 is a pretty androgynous collection: strong silhouettes, sharp cuts, and black on black on black. Makes me want to throw on a suit for my next night out.
