Givenchy’s Riccardo Tisci For Nike

No really, this is actually happening. Givenchy‘s revered creative director, Riccardo Tisci has signed on with Nike to create a limited edition footwear collection called Nike RT.

While this isn’t the first time that the sporting label has done a collaboration (and it’s not the first time they’ve dabbled with the French – see Nike X A.P.C. and those denim shoes) choosing a high fashion Parisian couturier is a bit of a departure from anything they’ve done in the past.

That being said, Tisci is no stranger to the footwear, staying faithful to his favourite Nikes for the last 16 years and as he nostalgically told, “For me, Nike represents a lot: my childhood, America.” And let’s not forget that his best mate, Kanye West has also worked with the big Swoosh as well on the Air Yeezy’s – then got angry at them and left for Adidas.

As for what we can expect, we can only hope that it will reflect his work with Givenchy – think religious motifs, iconic seasonal prints, etc – but the designer has briefly described it as “strong without being loud”

Nike has said that the collection will arrive in store and online in Spring – which means Autumn for us Southern Hemisphere-ers.

It’s still early in the year but we think this can officially be put on the list of most anticipated collaborations.
