This is one of those good news/bad news situations. The bad news is Bluejuice have announced the band will break up at year’s end. Band members Jake Stone and Stavros Yiannoukas joined Matt and Alex on Triple J’s breakfast show today, devastating morning commuters already bummed out by the Monday morning blues.
Jake, eloquent as ever, put things in perspective for listeners. “It’s been 13 years and we don’t want to be a shit band and we don’t want to hang on until you lose interest in us…it’s not the worst thing that’s ever going to happen. We’re not dead yet.”
It’s not all doom and gloom, though. The good news is the band will use the rest of 2014 to say goodbye, announcing a farewell Australian tour. The boys also debuted their new single, I’ll Go Crazy, a bouncy little number which suggests they’ll go out on their desired high. The single will feature on Bluejuice’s forthcoming greatest “hits” (the inverted commas were the bands suggestion, not mine) album, Retrospectable.
Retrospectable is out September 19 and tickets for their final tour go on sale August 9.
