Binge drinkers, party goers and music lovers rejoiced nationwide today when 11 new artists were added to the Big Day Out 2014 lineup through the festival’s official second announcement. The announcement, made on Triple J early on Tuesday November 19, comes after a rather tumultuous year for one of our most treasured music festivals.
Plagued with rumours of financial bankruptcy, city council issues as well as the selling of the BDO headquarters, the future of Big Day Out has been brought into question these last 12 months. Yet with BDO 2015 well under development, CEO AJ Maddah hit back at these rumours, dismissing them as nothing but ”nonsense.”
Rumours or not, the confidence in the popularity in the festival is reflected through the variety of talented acts who signed onto the lineup in the second announcement. Taking the total number of festival acts from 32 to 43, the lineup consists of well established bands including The Jungle Giants, Primus and The Drones as well as some new and upcoming bands too. These acts will have the pleasure of performing alongside the festivals biggest headliners including Arcade Fire, Flume and Pearl Jam as well as playing to one of the biggest crowds the Australian music scene has to offer.
