Kate Moss welcomed in a new era for Playboy as the cover girl for their 60th Anniversary edition. Playboy have now released a super short behind the scenes video of the shoot. (Ah to work as a photographer…)
Shot by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott, this spread seems to be one for the history books.
Playboy‘s editorial director Jimmy Jellinek stated that Moss was the only choice for the anniversary issue. “This is a massive global brand,” Jellinek said of Playboy. “You need a global icon in order to celebrate that — that was the impetus. You’re talking about the face of Burberry, the biggest supermodel in the world on the cover of Playboy. She’s the perfect partner for us to help launch the next 60 years.”
Although feeling comfortable in front of the camera (sans clothing), Moss told the magazine that she craves privacy in her day to day life - “I don’t want to hang my dirty laundry out for Hello! and for people to know all the ins and outs of my life… I don’t get why it would be interesting. I’m not that different. And also, now with Instagram and everything, everyone’s so on their phones that even when I’m in a restaurant like this, where you wouldn’t expect it, someone will come up and ask to get a picture with me. I’m like, ‘No!’”
However she wouldn’t trade her current life for anything, telling the mag she could never have envisioned any other life for herself. “I was, like, a child when I started. I was 14. If it hadn’t happened, I don’t know what would have happened to me. I would be in Croyden [the neighborhood south of London where she grew up], working in a bar, probably. I wanted to be at the center of things. I love working with creative people, and there was none of that where I came from. As soon as I was given a chance I took it.”
In celebration of the 60th issue, Marc Jacobs has also teamed up with Playboy to produce a limited edition Kate Moss Bunny T-shirt. All proceeds of the sale of the Kate Moss for Playboy T-shirt go to the amFAR organization. You can buy one here.
