As anticipation builds for 2015’s faceoff between Batfleck and Cavill-El, Variety has named several actresses contesting for a role that sounds suspiciously like a certain female superhero.
Reportedly, Gal Gadot (Fast and Furious), Elodie Yung (G.I. Joe: Retaliation), and Olga Kurylenko (Quantum of Solace) have or will audition for a lead female character in the Batman vs. Superman movie, described as “tall, brunette, athletic and exotic.”
Ok, so it’s far from conclusive evidence – the description could apply to any one of Bruce Wayne’s girlfriends, lucky bastard – but it also happens to be a pretty accurate summation of the Amazonian warrior princess Wonder Woman. In fact, Variety notes that multiple Justice League members may appear in Batman vs. Superman, pointing to Wonder Woman and The Flash as the most likely candidates. But will they be cameo, supporting or lead roles?
Introducing some of the wider Justice League into the showdown between Batman (Ben Affleck) and Superman (Henry Cavill) is going to require a deft hand, no matter how large a part they play. After all, the movie has to unendingly re-imagine Batman in the wake of Christopher Nolan’s monumental Dark Knight trilogy. Will director Zack Snyder and writer David S. Goyer also be able to weave in characters hitherto unseen on the big screen? Or should they save it for that fabled Justice League movie?
Batman vs. Superman is due for a worldwide release on July 17, 2015.
